About our Structures

What does the price listed mean? This price is for the complete frame (or log cabin logs) ready to be put back up. We do not sell frustration. When you purchase a building it is

  • documented (with diagrams that show dimensions and all wood pieces labeled to match the metal tags we attached to the wood)

  • brought back to the shop, inspected, cleaned and repaired as needed, using matching materials and historic techniques.  For example, if a hewn post is rotten and we can't find a similar hewn beam for a replacement, we will hew one ourselves. We pride ourselves on keeping as much of the original material as possible, while making sure that the structure is ready to stand for the next 200-300 years.

Prices listed below do not include roofing, rafters, windows, doors, flooring, staircases, mantels, hardware, trim, stone foundation, etc. unless noted in the description. If any of these items are available to purchase separately it will be noted in the description and the items will be discounted 25% from the normal retail value.

For an additional charge, the Barn & Cabin Friend can deliver your structure and erect it, no matter where your property is. We can also advise your contractors about the foundation needed, or about special considerations in finishing your unusual structure. Typically timber frame barns that will be climate-controlled are enclosed within SIPs (structurally insulated panels) for an energy-efficient building envelope and a view of all the posts and beams on the inside.

In some cases we can serve as general contractor for foundation, roofing, insulation, powder post beetle control, and chinking (for cabins). Depending on your area we may be able to recommend other contractors who can take your project to completion.

Midland Log Cabin

This early American log cabin was built entirely of oak and measures 16' x 26.'  It is a story and a half, which means that the upstairs has an approximately 3' knee wall with the rafters giving you the upstairs area. This cabin has exceptionally tight dovetail corners which create a great locked-together structure. It has been disassembled and is stored under roof.

Watertown House

We couldn't pass up the chance to get involved with this cool piece of early American history. This 1782 Connecticut home was carefully disassembled and moved to the Cincinnati area in the 1950's. Now it's ready for its third chapter of life. For a very old home, it's got high ceilings on the ground floor and a spacious layout that could easily be married to an open concept addition on the back. All the beams are hand hewn but some are so smooth you'd think they were sawn. The joinery is remarkable and many of the original details like doors and hardware can be included. A rare find.
